In short: Mizan has no account and no servers that store your data. Your balance, streaks, counts and app choices live only on your phone. We show no ads, use no analytics or tracking, and never sell data. Anonymous crash reports help us fix bugs. Qur’an audio streams from our own server, which sees your IP address like any website.

Mizan (“Mizan”, “we”, “us”) is the data controller for the app and this website. Mizan is based in the European Union (Belgium).

Data that stays on your device
The following is created and stored only on your phone. We never receive it.
- Your balance of minutes, your ledger of earned and spent time, your streak and daily goal.
- Your dhikr counts, adhkar progress, lessons completed, Qur’an reading position and khatm progress.
- Your settings: rate, resting apps, salah pause, night rest, schedules and language.
- Surahs you download for offline listening (Premium).
Mizan has no account and no sign-in. There is no cloud copy of this data, apart from your phone’s own encrypted device backup if you have turned that on with Apple or Google.
Permissions and how they are used
iPhone: Screen Time
Mizan uses Apple’s Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings, Device Activity) to rest the apps you choose. When you pick apps or categories, iOS gives Mizan opaque tokens. Mizan can ask iOS to shield them but cannot read the names of the apps, and cannot see how you use them. This happens entirely on your device.
Android: accessibility service
On Android, Mizan uses an accessibility service only to detect which app is in the foreground. It reads the package name of that app (for example com.instagram.android), compares it with your list of resting apps on the device, and shows the rest screen if needed. It does not read screen content, messages, passwords or anything you type. Package names are never stored remotely or transmitted. Mizan may also ask you to exempt it from battery optimisation so this keeps working.
Notifications
Prayer, reminder and session notifications are scheduled locally on your phone. We do not use push notification servers.
Location
Location is optional. If you allow it, Mizan uses your approximate position on the device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can instead choose a city by hand and never grant location access.
Purchases
Premium is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Apple or Google processes your payment; we never see your card details, name or email. To check whether you have Premium, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID generated on your device, your purchase receipts (product, price, currency, dates, store transaction IDs) and basic device information such as the app version and country of the store. RevenueCat processes this on our behalf; see RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
Crash reports
When the app crashes or hits an error, an anonymous report is sent to Sentry, our error-monitoring provider, so we can fix it. A report contains the device model, operating system and version, app version, and the technical stack trace. It does not contain your name, contacts, location, the apps you rest, your counts or any content you enter. See Sentry’s privacy policy.
Qur’an audio and our server
The list of reciters and the Qur’an recitations are fetched from our own server at mizandeen.app. Like any web server, it receives your IP address and basic request information (time, file requested, app or browser version) and records them in standard access logs. We use these logs only to keep the service running and secure. They are deleted after at most 14 days.
Our website and audio server are served through Cloudflare, which acts as a content delivery network and security layer and processes the same request data on our behalf. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. Fonts and images are served from our own server.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising or analytics SDKs.
- No tracking across apps or websites.
- No selling, renting or sharing of personal data for marketing.
- No account, no profile, no social features.
Legal bases (GDPR)
- Delivering the app and its purchases: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Crash reports, access logs and security: our legitimate interest in a reliable and secure service (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Location: your choice to enable it, which you can withdraw at any time in your phone settings.
Some of our providers (Cloudflare, Sentry, RevenueCat) may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Retention and deletion
Data on your device stays until you delete it. Settings › Delete my data erases everything Mizan has stored on your phone; uninstalling the app does the same. Server access logs are deleted after at most 14 days. Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days. Purchase records are kept by Apple, Google and RevenueCat as required for accounting and tax law.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Because we hold almost nothing that identifies you, most requests are answered by the in-app deletion above. For anything else, write to support@mizandeen.app. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority, in Belgium the Data Protection Authority (Autorité de protection des données / Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit).
Children
Mizan is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Parents who believe a child has sent us personal data can contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, mention it in the app.
